DTS at National Day Parade 2007
382 DTS projectors to light the National Day Parade 2007 in Singapore
The event:
From next 18 July to 26 August, Singapore will be holding its National Day Festival 2007, one of the most important and spectacular events of the whole of Asia.

The National Day Festival, which this year celebrates 42 years of Singapore’s independence, comprises a variety of events taking place in various places in the capital, culminating in the National Day Parade, a mega-event due to take place on 9 August aboard an enormous floating platform constructed specifically for the occasion, moored opposite the “Esplanade” seafront in the Marina Bay area.
Around 30,000 spectators will watch the show from the grandstands erected facing the platform, and 150,000 more will follow the event directly from the Esplanade.
The theme of this year’s National Day Parade is “The City of Possibilities”, a tribute to the optimism and pride of the Singapore people, and the show will focus on the 5 elements of Sea, Earth, Sky, People and Fire, to honour the various aspects of their national identity.
The show will include a maxi-concert performed by an orchestra of 240 musicians, a grand parade, a tribute to the armed forces, and a gigantic show of lights, music and fireworks that will illuminate the entire city.
The technical director of the National Day Parade is Nick Eltis, assisted by lighting designer Paul Collison, both true professionals with vast experience in the staging of top-level events, like the Asian Games 2006 (Doha, Qatar), the Commonwealth Games 2006 (Melbourne, Australia), and the 2000 and 2004 Olympics (Sydney and Athens).

The technical installation:
Technical installations for the National Day Parade are being provided by the company Showtec Communications, managed by Henry Ang.
D.T.S. has a fundamental role in this massive organizational enterprise, as the main supplier of the moving-head projectors that will light the event.
During the National Day Parade, in fact, 382 DTS projectors will be used, comprising 256 XR8 WASH, 48 XR250 WASH, 64 XM1200 SPOT and 14 ARC 1200.
The D.T.S. chief engineer visited Singapore to supervise the main installation phases of the lighting system, guaranteeing all the necessary technical consultancy and assistance.
The most noticeable elements of the system are the eight towers erected along the sides and rear of the floating platform.
196 XR8 WASH have been installed on the four central towers to colour the large stage on which the event will be held from above.
Lighting from ground level features XM1200 SPOT and XR250 WASH models arranged mainly around the perimeter of the platform and inserted beneath the access ramps.
Singapore has an equatorial climate, hot and humid, with abundant rainfall the whole year round. The moving heads were therefore fitted with the new covers in ABS plastic, ensuring highly efficient protection against the frequent showers, and in particular during a violent storm that unexpectedly hit the city.
As Paul Collison (lighting designer for the event) told, ” I just wanted to note how well we came out of the rain last night. (…) we managed to survive what was quite a vicious storm”.
