Christ Embassy Church of South Africa, based in Randburg, initially contacted Martin’s South African distributor Electrosonic SA in 2007 for dimmers and TV lighting for broadcast purposes.
Pastor Milton, who was then in charge of the lighting, was looking for a reliable supplier who could supply and install top quality lighting equipment with back-up and support to match. Electrosonic SA then supplied and installed dimmers, lighting bars and 2kW TV lights along with a control desk.
During 2008, Electrosonic set up a demonstration of the Martin range of lighting fixtures, as well as some options for house lights.
The existing house lights were of the high bay type and as such not dimmable and without any form of control. At that time Pastor Mighty was in charge of the lighting and they had high expectations for what they wanted to invest in.
After the demonstration it was clear that the Martin Stagebar 54S™ was the perfect choice for the application and the venue – the low power consumption, 36,000 hour lamp life and broad range of colors made the decision to use the robust and innovative fixture quite easy.
The Stagebar LED batten can function as either a pixel bar for displaying imagery or as a wash luminaire for floodlighting surfaces. With five colored diodes (RGB plus Amber and White) instead of the usual three, the Stagebar offers a broader range of colors.
Range, quality, reliability
Head Pastor Ose, Pastor Tayo and Pastor Mighty were very impressed with the range of the Martin lights, as well as the excellent quality and reliability, and decided that Martin was the perfect choice for their church. An order was placed for 72 Martin Stagebar 54s along with 6 MAC 250 Wash and 2 MAC 575 Krypton moving heads.
House of a different color
The Stagebars and MAC 250 Washes are used for house lighting, which is a different application than the norm. The fixtures’ purpose is to light up the audience and to create a dynamic, colorful and inspiring atmosphere for the congregation. The MAC 575 Kryptons are used in conjunction with the previously supplied TV lighting for effects on the stage and performers.
Another important requirement was the userfriendliness of the products. The fittings needed to be reliable with low maintenance. As the Stagebars are LED based there is no need to change color gels, the lamps have a long life guarantee and the units consume little power, making them extremely economical. Since the fixtures are used as house lighting, the lack of heat radiation was also a deciding factor.
The installation was completed within two weeks by Electrosonic. “We are looking forward to continue building our relationship with the Christ Embassy Church in the future,” Electrosonic’s Robbi Nassi commented.
